Govt. of India approved a new program titled Global Initiative of Academic Networks (GIAN) in Higher Education aimed at tapping the talent pool of scientists and entrepreneurs, internationally to encourage their engagement with the institutes of Higher Education in India so as to augment the country’s existing academic resources, accelerate the pace of quality reform, and elevate India’s scientific and technological capacity to global excellence. Professors of IEM-UEM group went to IIT Kharagpur to represent our educational group under the Global Initiative of Academic Networks (GIAN) program of IIT Kharagpur.

The NCPT-2016 that was held in JAIPUR (RAJASTHAN) on 17&18 Dec 2016. It was also accompanied by CULTURAL EVENTS :- 1.Theme Based Group Dance/Solo 2.Shayari Competition 3.Group song/Solo Song 4.Special Talent Hunt 5.Fashion Show University of Engineering & Management (UEM), Jaipur students have stood 1st in paper presentation competition at National Congress of Physical Therapy (NCPT) where more than 1000 students all over the country participated.

Prof. Indrani Bhattacharyya, Head, Research Council, University of Engineering & Management (UEM) was invited for the prestigious position as member of steering committee of International Symposium of Optomechatronic Technology (ISOT), a truly multidisciplinary Conference on Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, Opto-electronics. Prof. Bhattacharyya of UEM Kolkata was the only professor of India to be present in the prestigious steering committee. She also gave her Invited Talk on 8-Nov-2016, Tuesday from 9:00-9:30 am, which created attention amongst the Scientific Community. It created a scope of immense collaboration of UEM Kolkata with prestigious Universities all over the world and also, our students to take part in ISOT in near future. Prof. Bhattacharyya proposed ISOT-2017 to be held in India, and UEM Kolkata & Jaipur to be the host. The steering committee of ISOM, International Society for Optomechatronic Technology has accepted the proposal. The speakers were:- 1) Prof. J. W. Kim from South Korean Institute of Technology 2) Prof. Toru Yashizawa from Tokyo University-Founder member of ISOM, Prof. Wong from Korean Institute of Technology 3) Prof. Rainer Tusch - President of ISOM from Germany 4) Prof. Muzutani from University of Osaka 5) Prof. Jonathan Koffman from Germany 6) Prof. Hidetoshi Katori, Department of Applied Physics, The University of Tokyo, Japan. It is a probability that Prof. Katori may be awarded Nobel in next year. 7) Prof. Y. Otani, General Chair, ISOT 2016 8) Mr. T. Sakamoto Mayor of Tokyo-Itabashi City 9) J. Tsujiuchi, Prof. Emeritus, Tokyo Institute of Technology. Prof. Bhattacharyya visited Riken Industry, Material Fabrication Lab, Topcon Corp. followed by Opto-electronic lab visit at Utsunomiya University, where there is huge scope of Indian students wiring under professors of USA, Canada etc.

University of Engineering & Management (UEM), the leading University in the country is organizing "ConnecTech - UEM Technical Bonanza" at Patna and Ranchi on 17th and 19th January respectively. The importance of trees in purifying the air, as natural resources, maintaining the ecological balance, preventing soil erosion, as medicines, habitats for faunal species, providing nutrients to the soil etc. is well known. Thus, understanding the importance of trees in our nature, Tree Plantation program was held at the University of Engineering & Management (UEM), Kolkata. Trees were planted by - 1) Shri G. K. Pillai, IAS, Chancellor, UEM Jaipur, Former Union Home Secretary, Govt of India, Member, Board of Directors, TATA International. 2) Prof Dr Basudeb Barman, Former Vice-Chancellor, Kalyani University. 3) Prof Dr Satyajit Chakrabarti, Chancellor, UEM Kolkata. 4) Shri Amit Kiran Deb, IAS, Former Chief Secretary, Govt of West Bengal. 5) Prof Dr T. K. Nath, Former Chairperson, AICTE.  

Baja SAE consists of competitions that simulate real-world engineering design projects and their related challenges. Engineering students are tasked to design and build an off-road vehicle that will survive the severe punishment of rough terrain. Each team's goal is to design and build a single-seat, all-terrain, sporting vehicle whose structure contains the driver. The vehicle is to be a prototype for a reliable, maintainable, ergonomic, and economic production vehicle which serves a recreational user market. The students of University of Engineering & Management (UEM), Jaipur have developed a car and have been selected to represent India in the final round of International Baja SAE moto-sports competition.

UEM Kolkata students' performances in NPTEL examinations in September-October cycle have been ranked no. 1 in whole India. Around 4 lacs registrations were there in that cycle. IEM has ranked 4th in pan India. CONGRATULATIONS !!! to our students. NPTEL stands for National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning which is an initiative by seven Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras and Roorkee) and Indian Institute of Science (IISc) for creating course contents in engineering and science. A proposal was jointly put forward by five IITs (Bombay, Delhi, Kanpur, Kharagpur and Madras) and IISc for creating contents for 100 courses as web based supplements and 100 complete video courses, for forty hours of duration per course. Web supplements were expected to cover materials that could be delivered in approximately forty hours. Five engineering branches (Civil, Computer Science, Electrical, Electronics and Communication and Mechanical) and core science programmes that all engineering students are required to take in their undergraduate engineering programme in India were chosen initially. Contents for the above courses were based on the model curriculum suggested by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and the syllabi of major affiliating Universities in India.
