Prof. Indrani Bhattacharyya, Head, Research Council, University of Engineering & Management (UEM) was invited for the prestigious position as member of steering committee of International Symposium of Optomechatronic Technology (ISOT), a truly multidisciplinary #Conference on Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, Opto-electronics. Prof. Bhattacharyya of UEM Kolkata was the only professor of India to be present in the prestigious steering committee. She also gave her Invited Talk on 8-Nov-2016, Tuesday from 9:00-9:30 am, which created attention amongst the #Scientific_Community. It created a scope of immense #collaboration of UEM Kolkata with prestigious Universities all over the world and also, our students to take part in ISOT in near future. Prof. Bhattacharyya proposed ISOT-2017 to be held in India, and UEM Kolkata & Jaipur to be the host. The steering committee of ISOM, International Society for Optomechatronic Technology has accepted the proposal. The speakers were:- 1) Prof. J. W. Kim from South Korean Institute of Technology 2) Prof. Toru Yashizawa from Tokyo University-Founder member of ISOM, Prof. Wong from Korean Institute of Technology 3) Prof. Rainer Tusch - President of ISOM from Germany 4) Prof. Muzutani from University of Osaka 5) Prof. Jonathan Koffman from Germany 6) Prof. Hidetoshi Katori, Department of Applied Physics, The University of Tokyo, Japan. It is a probability that Prof. Katori may be awarded Nobel in next year. 7) Prof. Y. Otani, General Chair, ISOT 2016 8) Mr. T. Sakamoto Mayor of Tokyo-Itabashi City 9) J. Tsujiuchi, Prof. Emeritus, Tokyo Institute of Technology. Prof. Bhattacharyya visited Riken Industry, Material Fabrication Lab, Topcon Corp. followed by Opto-electronic lab visit at Utsunomiya University, where there is a huge scope of Indian students wiring under professors of USA, Canada etc. www.uem.edu.in

IEM-UEM group students participated in IONS, Dhanbad. These students of IEM-UEM group are representatives of SPIE (Society of Photo-Optical Instrumentation Engineers) and OSA (Optical Society of America), India student chapters. These students of IEM-UEM group represent India in these American societies. www.uem.edu.in On 7th September, 2016, Kuntal Sengupta and Sombuddha Chatterjee, 4th year students of IEM-UEM group and President and Vice-President of OSA approved India Student Chapter, attended ISM Dhanbad to attend & present their #Poster_Paper at OSA IONS #Conference. Congratulations to our student Mr. Prithviraj Dhar for successfully completing an internship at the University of Maryland while in his B.Tech program. During his stay at the University of Maryland, he worked on the topic - Face verification in low-resolution images using deep features. After successfully completing his research work, he has got an offer for direct Ph.D. at the University of Maryland. The very best wishes for a successful career for Mr. Prithvijit Dhar. The students of University of Engineering & Management (UEM), Jaipur developed a working car from scrap materials and motorbike engine. Baja_SAE consists of competitions that simulate real-world engineering design projects and their related challenges. Engineering students are tasked to design and build an off-road vehicle that will survive the severe punishment of rough terrain. Each team's goal is to design and build a single-seat, all-terrain, sporting vehicle whose structure contains the driver. The vehicle is to be a prototype for a reliable, maintainable, ergonomic, and economic production vehicle which serves a recreational user market. Achievemnts of R & D #Data_Analytics Centre of UEM Jaipur:- 1. Around 500 students are enrolled in the Alpha Vision programme. They have already completed two weeks of micro learning programme. The programme is getting very good response from students. 2. Mr. Akash Dubey, a final year mechanical student, is the Campus Coordinator of Alpha Vision programme of Valeur HR and Six Sigma, Singapore. Akash Dubey has been doing a great job to promote this programme among the students of our campus. The company Value HR has given him internship for 3 months and are giving him Rs.10,000 per month as stipend. Further, he has been selected by the company to undergo a week's training at Singapore in the month of January 2017. All the expenses including travel, boarding and lodging are taken care of by the company. 3. Three second year students who are enrolled in the programme have started earning. Details of their last week earning: Srideep Debris - $59 Kingsuk Roy -$22 Ritam Kumar Rooj -$19 This is just the beginning. As they complete more modules and gain experience, their earnings would improve. Hopefully many more students who would be serious will also start earning in the coming weeks. This is an earn while you learn programme. 4. A coding (programming) team from University of Engineering & Management (UEM), Kolkata got selected in the final round and is representing India in ACM ICPC (the biggest and most prestigious international coding championship, where there is always participation from different countries all over the world, and happens in different countries in different years) final round. Date of the DST Science camp in UEM, Kolkata - 16-20 Jan, 2017 The University of Engineering & Management (UEM), Kolkata is organizing the DST Inspire Science Camp on 16-20 Jan, 2017. The Department of Science & Technology (DST), Govt of India sponsors this camp to the top reputed Universities of the country, where school students having more than 88% marks in class 10 (WBBHSE and CBSE) and 95% marks in class 10 (ICSE) can attend and get lectures and practical trainings from top professors of India and abroad. The professors who come to teach these students are of international repute from the IITs and professors from abroad. The basic objective this DST Inspire Science Camp is to attract talented young students to undertake study of science at a very early stage and to help build the required critical human research and development base of our nation.
